TWITTER DOUBLES CHARACTER LIMIT FROM 140 TO 280
Many of the social networking user’s in their day today
use twitter around the world for getting knowledge and gather information. However,
users tweeting in Chinese, Japanese and Korean will still have the original limit
of 140 words. That is because writing in those languages characters uses more space
than languages like English. The company says 9% of the tweets written in English
hit the limit of 140 characters as people end up spending more time editing
tweets or they prefer not to send them at all.
Twitter hope that the expand limit of tweets will
increase the engagement of users to tweet more, helping in increasing the user
growth. Twitter has been testing the new word limit for weeks and is starting
to roll it out today. The company has been slowly easing restriction to let
people cram more character into a tweet. It has stopped counting polls, photos,
videos and other things towards the limit.
Twitter character limit was created so that tweets
could fit into a single text message, back when many people were using texts to
receive tweets. But now, most people use twitter through its mobile app, the
140 character limit is no longer a problem for the users.
