NEARLY 140 KILLED IN IRAN-IRAQ EARTHQUAKE
The death toll in the Earthquake which hit the Iran-Iraq border area climbed to nearly 140 in Iran. Earlier reports had said at least sixty-one people were killed in Iran as a strong earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale hit the Iran-Iraq border area. Over 300 people were injured in Iran with the death toll expected to rise.
The US Geological survey said the earthquake epicenter was in Penjwin in Sulamaniyah province in the Kurdistan Region close to the border crossing with Iran. The worst Hit towns in Iran were Qasr-e shirin in Kermanshah and Azgaleh, about 40 kilometers northwest, Iran’s official. Thirty red cross teams had been sent to the quake zone, parts of which had experienced power cuts.
