72 new galaxies discovered by single telescope
Astronomers have discovered 72 galaxies using a MUSE instrument on ESO's very large Telescope (VLT) in Chile as part of the deepest spectroscopic survey ever conducted. VLT used an instrument which split light into its components colours to create a spectrum. They focused on the Hubble Ultra Deep Field, measuring distance and properties of 1600 very faint galaxies including 72 of new galaxies that have not seen before, even by NASA's Hubble space telescope. this ground breaking data set has already resulted in 10 science papers that are being published in a special issues of Astronomy and Astrophysics. this will help Astronomers to give information about insight into star formation in the early Universe, and allows them to study the motions and other properties of early galaxies.
