NASHIK FARMER DEAD, 67 ILL AFTER LUNCH AT BAYER SEEDS EVENT ON HYBRID TOMATOES




A farmer died and 67 others were hospitalized on Wednesday after suspected food poisoning at a symposium on Hybrid tomatoes organised by agro chemical major Bayer seeds at a village near Nashik in Maharashtra.
Nearly 200 farmers attended the symposium on hybrid tomatoes, organised by Bayer seeds private Limited, at Umrale village in Dindori taluka near Nashik. They were served lunch, arranged by the company through a private caterer. 
                                                                  Soon after they had eaten, farmer complained of uneasiness and vomiting. Farmer name Atul Pandurang Kedar age 41 from Umrale Bu village started feeling dizzy and collapsed soon after that he was taken to a private hospital in Umrale and rushed directly to Magnum Heart Hospital in Nashik. where doctors found he was had food poisoning on Wednesday while other 67 other are admitted to various other Hospitals.

In the recent past, Maharashtra has reported deaths due to pesticide exposure. Activities and farmer groups have criticized multinational agro chemical companies for not doing enough to create awareness on handling of pesticides.
